Suzuki Vitara wins Drives Best City SUV 2015

Suzuki has re-invented the Vitara, making it into an award winning City SUV. So much so, that the Judges at Drive thought it was 2015′s best City SUV ahead of the Mazda CX-3 and Honda HR-V.

Although the Suzuki Vitara was the clear underdog in the Baby Bush basher segment, nothing could have stopped this impressive little Soft Roader from coming from behind and taking the title. Until you sit in and drive this 4th generation Vitara, you can’t appreciate the handling and comfort that this sub $25k Drive Away SUV has. With a more than impressive list of standard features including Satellite Navigation, Reversing Sensor and 7 airbags, it’s hard to believe that you’re not out of pocket much more than the asking price.

So let’s look at the fundamentals of ride quality and overall space. The Vitara didn’t have the most powerful engine in it’s category, but was the lightest meaning that it was quiet at cruising speeds, smooth when shifting through gears and light on fuel. When you look at buying a small SUV for the family there’s obviously more to consider than just the up front cost of the car and the recorded fuel values. That’s why in Drives car of the year they also look at the resale and long term running costs. Both very important when investing in the 2nd largest purchase of your life.

The nuts and bolts of it mean that as far as ownership goes the Suzuki streaks ahead of any car willing to challenge it. Although it requires 6 monthly servicing intervals it is actually the cheapest car to own over the 1st 3 years. Add this to the fact that it is almost the lightest car in the field and therefore has the best Fuel consumption overall it is a definite winner for the bank balance.
So if you’re looking for your first family SUV, a fun weekend warrior car or a drive me to work in comfort vehicle you can’t go past the Suzuki Vitara.
